Acupuncture – 2,000 years in practice
Acupuncture is one of the oldest and most commonly used medical therapies in the world. It is part of a larger group of medical treatments called Chinese medicine in which health and disease are related to the circulation of the body’s energy or qi. Another central concept in Chinese medicine is that when treating disease it is important to improve a patient’s overall health and wellbeing rather than treating symptoms in isolation.
From a conventional medical perspective research shows acupuncture releases endorphins and increases immune activity. Studies also show acupuncture can alter brain chemistry by releasing neurohormones and neurotransmitters which influence blood flow, blood pressure and body temperature.
